A garden’s design should be as personal to its owners as the clothes they choose to wear. A well-fitting garment is like a garden that is true to its natural contours, environment and situation.
In garden design, we don’t estimate a collar measurement of 16½, or dress size 32, applying standardisation and benchmarks. We consider individuality, form, function and aesthetics.
Garden design is about individual form. It flows with the natural landscape of existing hedging, shady hollows and little hillocks that overcome the most ghastly of blunders; builder’s rubble.
The garden’s function depends on the homeowner’s outdoor lifestyle. We work with soft-landscaping with plant vitality that creates perspectives, bewitching vistas, meandering paths and seating areas of natural stone.
A true garden delights and reflects. Planting of Perennial flowers against glossy foliage creates spots of prettiness. Trellised weeping Laburnum produces tunnel visions of enchantment every spring.
Garden creativity must suit the garden owners' lifestyle - and enthral them.
GARDEN DESIGN, THE PROCESS
We design gardens for year-round delight.
We begin with the client’s need, desire and wants (all different things) and ideas. We consult throughout the process about planting, palette and planning.
We consider the garden’s orientation, sunlight, position, and examine the topography, the contours and construction of the ground.
We assess the soil and water access for plant suitability, nutrient planning, and quality. If necessary, we would point out to clients that their preference for alpine planting requires free-draining soil, whereas theirs is clay-bound.
We provide an initial idea of layout and what-plant-where (presentation board: sectional drawings to scale), with supporting rationale and solutions. We attach pictures of likely plants and planting to bring the concept to life. We listen to your comments and modify the concept for a revised presentation.
Once the concept is signed-off, we begin sourcing and purchasing the hardiest and choicest of the plants, shrubs and trees needed, and planning the construction work and soil preparation.
We work as unobtrusively as possible. Where we expect noise in earthwork preparation, we warn our clients in advance. We work in respect of their home, property and privacy.
Throughout the process, we collaborate, inform and reaffirm.
